frequently asked questions

Do I need to give up my phone? No! We believe in harm reduction and bringing awareness to our device use. We do not endorse a “phone abstinence” model for daily life, although you will power down and store your phone during the meeting time.

What’s the group like? Will I be bored? Teens and young adults report that the group is “actually fun” and “doesn’t feel like school.” The meeting has approximately 30 minutes of learning & sharing and then 30 minutes of hanging out & doing a hobby of your choice! (All in a phone-free environment.)

Do I have to commit to attend every week? No. You can join us for just one meeting or come back every week! Just make sure to sign up to save a spot.

Do I need to talk in the meeting? Nope! Just come and be with us. Our group is an invitation, not a demand.

What’s the “hobby time” about? A time to try out (or keep developing) a hobby to replace habitual phone use. Hobby work is self-guided, but participants have enjoyed coloring, word games, knitting, juggling, card shuffling, and so much more. Your facilitator ensures each participant has the materials and instruction to learn personal hobby skills!

Who can attend a group? We have groups designed for different age groups, including teen-specific (13+) and family-specific groups (7+).

How big are your groups? We try to keep our group size around 12. At certain locations, we can host two groups simultaneously (up to 24 people).

How much does it cost? Our groups are always free to attend. We have a suggested donation of $8/individual or $25/family. Schools should contact us for packages and pricing. Grants available.
